Manitou Group launches the new MLT-X 738 telehandler: Tailored performance for Australian and New Zealand farms

Manitou Group, a world reference in the handling, aerial work platform and earthmoving sector, announces the launch of the new MLT-X 738 telehandler. Designed specifically to meet the demanding needs of modern agricultural applications, this machine combines enhanced performance, superior comfort and increased profitability for farmers and agricultural contractors across Australia and New Zealand.

Evolution of the MLT-X 738

The MLT-X 738 represents a significant evolution in Manitou’s highly successful MLT NewAg product line. Built for demanding applications and rugged environments, the new MLT-X 738 boasts a maximum lift height of 6.91 m and an increased maximum capacity of 3,800 kg (up from 3.7 tonnes in previous iterations).

"As the main component of our telehandlers, we have reworked the design of our boom to bring farmers even greater performance," explains Camille Rouvrais, Global Product Manager at Manitou Group. The MLT-X 738 features a robust Atlas-type octagonal boom where all sensitive components, such as hoses and cylinders, are securely protected inside the structure. This ensures a limited risk of damage and downtime.

Even more comfort for harsh conditions

Recognising the long hours operators spend in the cab, particularly in the extreme heat and dusty environments often found in Australia and New Zealand, Manitou has heavily prioritised operator comfort and ergonomics.

● Advanced Climate Control: The MLT-X 738 features a new and improved automatic air conditioning system with a 12-speed fan that delivers a high airflow capacity of 500 m³/h (compared to the previous 200 m³/h). Coupled with a new removable filter framework, it provides better cooling performance, superior protection and easier cleaning in very dusty environments.

● Ergonomic Cabin: Operators will benefit from a user-friendly standard floating armrest that follows seat movements and incorporates the JSM (Joystick Switch and Move).

● Enhanced Visibility & Safety: Standard LED work lights (four on the cab) provide exceptional illumination while consuming less energy. For road travel, complete road lights and an LED rotating beacon ensure the machine can safely move around while being seen.

● Smart Counting System: A new integrated 7-inch digital screen offers a Smart Counting System. This feature allows the operator to manually or automatically count the number of filled or emptied buckets. Operators can define a target and receive an on-screen alert when reached, making it an invaluable, time-saving tool for accurately measuring feed mixer or trailer filling.

Even more robustness and profitability

To tackle rough agricultural terrains, the MLT-X 738 is equipped with four larger, longer ‘moving’ mudguards that offer adjustable lateral positioning. This redesign thoroughly protects the machine against flying sludge and debris. Additionally, a standard compensation cylinder insulation system reduces unnecessary pressure and effort on the boom and chassis, further extending the machine's lifespan. Maintenance is also simplified with a lightweight, easily removable rear hood that requires no tools, perfect for regularly cleaning out dust and straw.

To drive down the total cost of ownership, the MLT-X 738 comes standard with a new Stop & Start system. "This innovation automatically shuts off the engine and associated hour counter when the machine is idling ... according to a configurable timer from one to thirty minutes," notes Rouvrais. If the operator interacts with the JSM joystick or accelerator pedal, the engine automatically and rapidly restarts without needing to turn the key. This significantly reduces daily fuel consumption, decreases preventive maintenance, limits air pollution and increases the residual value of the machine.

An automatic parking brake with both automatic and manual modes is also included as a simple and safe standard solution. For customers who already utilise mixed fleets, the machine can optionally be fitted with a carriage for JCB attachments.

The MLT-X 738 is ideally suited for livestock farms, offering peak efficiency for forage distribution, bulk loading and unloading, bale and pallet handling.
